Popular Desi Dykons – You Agree?

These (the list) could be referred to as Dykons and mind you, that does not mean they are gay or that I am insinuating their sexuality–they are simply Bollywood stars who make excellent lesbian icons due to their strength, personality and various character portrayals. [Link]

Prerna at No Borders and Binaries has put up her list of Bollywood Lezzie icons. Somewhat similar to what I had posted couple of months ago…and I completely agree with her Lisa Ray selection. The woman is HOT to the core and add to that the “boldness” factor, I mean how many women in Bolly-land would dare to defy the set (pseudo) norms.

Nandita Das, spot on. Me thinks she is kinda-like Medha Patkar of the Hindi Film Industry. Sounds funny, I know but that’s the impression she exuberates.

Isha Koppikar and Priyanka Chopra….hmmm….okayish.

But Bipasha Basu. Now I know the woman has a long queue of Queer followers and she oozes with sexiness but…but there is just something very cold about her. Like someone who will slit your throat and not even flinch. Acting wise too, never found her to be impressive except for maybe in Omkara

And my only other complain – why no Katrina Kaif? I mean…come on.

  1. If you think Katrina Kaif merits a ‘gay-si’ title, shoot away. She doesn’t spark anything on my gaydar besides annoyance. Then again, I avoid her movies like the curse.

The woman I do list have less to do with the ‘hot’ factor than the type of roles they have done over the past. Priyanka only makes the list due to Drona and Isha obviously because she has played gay, spoken out for the community, and did a decent job.

    Cheers.

  2. Btw, if you have a small link banner, send it my way. I’ll like to put it up on my site :) I’m a gay-si

  3. Kaviani

    Nandita rocks.

  4. MJ

@ Prerna : Well as they say, to each her own. :) But Priyanka for Drona, come on….even Ekta Kapoor’s saas bahu serials are more entertaining then that film.

As for Isha’s role in Girlfriend…me thinks it did more damage than good for the community. Only enforced pre-conceived notions.

    @ Kaviani : I agree. :)

  5. Lisa Ray for sure and maybe Sheetal Sheth, too. They are oh-so-hot in I Can’t Think Straight. Nandita Das is just awesome.

There are so few Desi Dykons. We need more of them.

    Cheers! ^_^

  6. Yeah I think Sheetal Sheth and Lisa Ray are the best lezzie couple Ive seen in a while… other than the L Word of course… I agree with Nandita Das…

I’d also pick Chitrangada Singh & Deepika Padukone..

And I think I’ll have to go with Prerna… she annoys me too…

  7. DK

Sheetal and Lisa truly rocks. Shamim has done a great work. I had even ordered both her novels from Amazon.com,: I cant think Straight and World Unseen.
World Unseen movie has even bagged some award.
Can’t wait to see the movie…!!!

    Sheetal is really HOT..!!! ;)

  8. @DK: The World Unseen, should remain The Movie Unseen. V.E.R.Y. boring.
Sheetal and Lisa are gorgeous in it though. Watch it on mute.
