Calling it a psychological disorder is a way to  reinforce the “normalcy” of heterosexuality. Probably , what such people need to understand is that it is homophobia that needs to be “fixed” in order to realise well-being and not the orientation themselves.
MJ , you have pointed it out correctly. Homophobia should be treated with the seriousness it merits, as it is often strongest where sexuality as a taboo topic.
It needs to be deconstructed and conceptualised, for people who engage in same-sex practices do not face discrimination because of their choices but because of the homophobic reactions to their decisions.
