Road Trip

[Guest Poet: The Girl]

she rides
beside me
in the dark
wakes up only once
to say she loves me
her face so lovely
in the light of a
passing car
I smile too because
i know i can give
her this.
i wonder why
she slips
away in the dark
i reach out
to find her gone
follow the trail
of wounds in the night
she stands alone
on the stone
breathing her soul
into grief
i cannot take away
a loss i cannot
give back.
