Exactly slow and intense because, our minds are rather tenacious(especially with the models they form).. .. Like how most of still hold on to Euclid’s geometry as a model of the world, while Minkowski/Riemann is definitely a better one….

I have tended to think that coming out to parents should take the form of a conversation, preferably face-to-face. But I can see through this how a letter might work better… because it gives the parents the time not to voice their first reaction but to let the news sink in.
