Movie Review: Bijli

My partner showed me a post titled, A Flash of Lightning: Bijli on the blog Racialicious about a short film called “Bijli.”

“Bijli” is a 15-minute long, international film about a Muslim pakistani who moved to Manhattan, New York.

Furthermore, this film is about a person who passes as “Fayaaz”, a man, during the day, and dances as “Bijli” in drag, to Bollywood songs at night.

Fayaaz has fond memories of his deceased parents, but has a bittersweet relationship with his faith, and the Mosque.

For more, just watch the full 15-minute short on youtube! – Bijli

divisions within trans community should also be explored. my friend iqbal is a Male to female trans atttracted towards women only. these people are termed by GLBT intellectuals like Dr Farzana as Gay transgenders. but i am sorry to state that even GLBT community abhors and shuns these people. will any one from GLBT community come out in support of these transgender gays.

I agree Sita. We must do more to stand up for those marginalised in LGBT community otherwise how will the queer community make changes and inroads into mainstream. We should support gay transgenders and also other people who are minorities-like genuine bi girls. I recently told an online gay friend i was bi and she said that was a dirty and nasty thing. I didn’t understand. How can an attraction to both genders be classified as dirty and nasty. However when i mentioned to her i had had no previous relationships she said i was special and any girl would be lucky to have me. I didn’t get it. Bi=bad to her but untouched=good. Wish we were more open minded than that.

yes while a lot of trans people firmly do not identify as gay, and that is okay, some do – and we need to work towards dispelling the stigma around that!
