Gaysi Podcast 4.0 : Coming Out (Part 1)

A month or so ago, Five of us …yes! Five spanking HOT gaysis got together one Saturday across 4 timezones for a near-2-hour Skype call discussion on Coming Out. After a ridiculously amazing conversation that was 4-5 podcasts worth covering the queer spectrum from end to end on we find out that…

Come out! Come out! where ever you are….

We aren’t Gay.

Just kidding. Actually it was funnier…

Snarky ( not Smart ) Editor, Broom forgot to press the Record button.

So last week after rescheduling shenanigans we gave it another go.  Now thats what you call commitment to hearing the sound of our own voices! This time Broom and Shri were discarded couldn’t make it… but …but … we had:

Rashmi the Ravishing ! Our Special Guest *trumpets! fanfare!* Deen the Delicious ! and Me! QC the…Queer?

And it was awesome. WE were awesome.

So go right ahead and lend us your ears for Part 1 of a 2 Part series on Coming Out – Enjoy!

Note from the Snarky Editor:

Dear gaysis, I did NOTforget to press the RECORD button’. QC lies.
I have the recording of that fabulous conversation to prove it. My flaw was that I had plugged in my headphones while on the skype call and so only my voice was picked up by the mike. So there’s this long recording of me saying intelligent things and then long silent pauses where you can’t hear the somewhat ok responses of everyone else (other than Deen – who is clearly a smart cookie!) and then you hear me laugh at something, then silence… You get the drift…

I screwed up, dear gaysis. But I did NOTforget to press the RECORD button’. QC lies.

About the author

Queer Coolie

Queer Coolie is the pink and cheery avatar of a single Indian lesbian in a big American city. She recently came out to those who matter (almost). The others have to figure it out for themselves. She likes scooters, mangoes and dim-sum. Her first gay occupation is enjoying her massive physical visceral workplace crush from a distance. The second is trying to answer what happens when one is gay and not as lucky as she is. Who’s coolie are they then?

  1. before i hear the awesomeness that is the podcast…i am heartbroken Broom is not in it :’( :’(

i was looking forward to hearing the hotness that is Broomy’s voice. Broom you promised us you would be on at the next ont. That’s not fair to all Broom fans here..

    heartbreakingly yours
    Pineapple

but thanks to all of u putting in the effort for making the podcast again for our benefit.

      • Broom im sure that recording of you just speaking would be perfect and awesome. you could still maybe just post a little. It’ll be hard for the Broom fans to wait another month before hearing a new podcast with your voice. whatever else will us Broom fans do in the meantime.
        :)

  2. Clearly I am not being missed by you guys nor by Broom’s fans but anyhow, fabulous job with the Podcast gang. :D

@ Deen : Thank you so much for your participation. And good luck with the Pride preparation.

  3. Great job on the podcast. This is exactly what needs to be out in the open for India. Dispel the rumors, fight with truth.

One question: Is the tag “Fucked Up” a good choice for this post? I see it works for other posts on the site, but for this topic, it reads as a denigrating comment about homosexuality. Rather, isn’t the idea of this post and subsequent podcast to be enlightening, inspiring and educational?

    • Thanks for listening Chris! :D

On the “Fucked Up” Tag – I believe it is merely an indication by the author of a post on Gaysi to classify the
issues, situations or stories discussed in their writing as being “Fucked Up” and hence, deserving of an outlet
for more debate, rant or vent! In my understanding, the tag does not vet the issue or the content of what is being said or written
as Fucked up. Rather, given the nature of our individual coming stories tinged with eccentricities, hope, inspiration and dismay at times
as you rightly pointed out – The tag is reflective of the fact that the podcast deals with “Coming Out” – A process filled with many ups
and downs and is made a reality only because we do live in a hetero-normative world… That makes it pretty darn Fucked up :)

  4. after hearing the podcast I have to say it was amazing hearing your experiences and issues you had to deal with.

    waiting for part 2 :)

  5. @Rashmi: I can’t really do much about it(parents using gender neutral terms).
Exactly, we can’t do much about modifying/reshaping any other person’s belief systems. Just had to look up Buckminister Fuller’s quote:

It is not for me to change you. The question is, how can I be of service
to you without diminishing your degrees of freedom?

    — R. Buckminster Fuller

  6. i see i have joined an esteemed bunch of sexy desi queers here. i’m quite honored to among you all. looking forward to more way to add to this ongoing gaysi family…i may have a few tricks up my sleeve….

    • Thanks for participating after debating about the podcast time in 6 different timezones. If you have not been confused yet, you will appreciate how much of work or rather talk goes behind it. Anyways, post your column soon :)

    • Try reading “origins of the Specious” by Pat Conner. You will appreciate which English would be more acceptable :)
