Not sure what to make of this poorly written article on msn.co.in!

“When Bollywood gives us those ones”
Is the article trying to showcase Bollywood movies with unconventional themes or calling out movies with “unacceptable” themes that passed the Censor board?
Showcasing movies with themes of “Lesbian Acts” (Girlfriend) and “Gay Love” (Dostana) along with movies that had “Violent rape scenes”, “Incest”, “Mindless Violence” is not very sane!
The Introduction says :
Now, we know that the Censors can turn a blind eye when they want to, but over the years, the Indian audience has surprisingly sat through and accepted some very disturbing revelations in Bollywood films. We wonder why.”
Huh? “Gay Love” and “Lesbian Act” are Very disturbing revelations?
May be our honorable health minister, Gulam Nabi Azad wrote this one!

I do not understand the point of that person’s article.
“….the Indian audience has surprisingly sat through…..” , SURPRISE SURPRISE Mr. Writer! Indian audience knows what they want to watch.
When I went through the article, it made me laugh more than it angered me. Ignorant leeches!
I know you’re exactly right Hen A if only they knew of the prejudice we face. Not all movies pass through the censor equally but we should commend them for showing gay themes. When society is moving forward this one seems to be stuck in Victorian era times. I won’t even say going back because we were much liberal in the past before colonisation. I’ve been to Konark and ive seen sculptures of 2 women embracing…and to make my parents think critically even asked them about it
hehe
You are right gaysigirl. Before the East India Company camped in India, we were way more civilized. That’s why I am amused every time someone cries about “Indian traditions and customs” when justifying their homophobia. Do they even know what they seem to defend?
By the way, its not only gay-bashing that is this article’s folly. The whole article stinks. I think its intended date of publication was 1st April, 1879.
1st April 1879? ROFL
Good one Hen A.
@Shri: Thanks!
When I started going through the article, I was mildly amused with the different slides. But the author totally had me at “Shocking film names”. I could not stop a hearty laughter.
I just realized that ideas that are archaic can actually be classified as stinking. They are like old vegetables/meat etc., which once had a life, but is so old now that it has rotten and stinks badly! Like physically stinks!!
Homophobia, like many other social evils, is so old that its rotten now and stinks!
For some reason I thought the writer was taking a dig at the ‘oh my god holier than thou indian culture’. There’s the hypocricy that ‘western culture’ shows nudity, sex, bad language, unecessary violence, etc. etc. but the Indian audience has surely lapped up all the same in Indian films. People who might have thought Brokeback Mountain was nothing but gay propaganda (my parents did) I’m sure laughed at every silly bit of Dostana because there is a Kanta ben (Kal ho na ho) in all of them.
