The third edition of the Manaveeyam Queer Festival, a precursor to the 9th Kerala Queer Pride march that will be held in Thrissur on August 16 and 17, witnessed a rousing participation by the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) community and many ardent supporters of their cause. Singing songs and dancing to folk tunes, hundreds of people gathered in Kerala’s capital on Sunday in a show of support to the Thiruvananthapuram Queer Pride Festival.
For them, it was not merely a procession, but a ‘celebration of their identity.’
Manaveeyam Queer Festival was also laced an exhilarating a well-executed fashion show for trans men who displayed some top-notch costumes.
The event comes at a time when almost all sexual and gender minorities rights activists observe welcome changes in what was largely a heteronormative society.
