I have been asking myself this question for months after 2011s pride. Am I proud enough to celebrate MY PRIDE?
What do I do when an attractive young man sits across me with his legs spread so wide that his thighs and organ strain against the fabric of his jeans? …
I looked at my mother, glittering in the smooth sunlight on Michigan Avenue, she was dripping in an excess of diamonds.
For two years, we have entertained while trying to mainstream queer identities through the medium of films.
Congratulations gay people. We’ve arrived. If someone bullies or intimidates us and we take our lives as a result of their douche-bagery, we can rest assured that they will be convicted of bias-intimdiation and possibly, sentenced harshly. And in the case of Dharun Ravi, also face deportation to a country that he probably does not remember. I hope everyone is happy that justice has been served.
For the most part South Asians are not the most comfortable talking about sex and sexuality. Is it because we aren’t having any? Funny, I didn’t think the Kama Sutra was for coffee table reading, nor did I think that population of India surpassed a billion through abstinence. Yet we shy away from these discussions, push them into a category of shame and turn a blind eye.
The years, on my face, they made a map,
And you wonder why I’m always black.
You never asked what I’ve seen,
For the scars, they told you where I’d …
She was all things Grey. In between a yes and no, unsure of left or right, in nor out. The only thing fun about all this was that she was never bored. The inner arguments and the vacillations kept her occupied for hours. Sometimes days. Free of guile and pretenses, what you saw was what you wished you got. But she seldom gave in. intimidating only if you didn’t know her, but then you never really could know her, for she didn’t want to be known. But one day, every thread was unraveled, un-done until all that remained was nothing.
It is easy to plan the “perfect date,” but it is hard to have the perfect date. To me a perfect date isn’t about what we do but rather about how we do it. The best dates are the ones that organically plan and reveal themselves.
I have planned and been on of lot of dates that were meant to be “perfect” and usually everything that could possibly go wrong did. I’m pretty low maintenance but my perfect date is all about the feeling behind it and who it is with – not what the date is.
All the trials and tribulations made me a stronger Indian woman. Despite all the clichés people may associate with pageants and the idea of feminine Desi women, through Miss India I was able to stand proudly as a dignified, educated, Indian woman who understands how my heritage and culture empowers my identity. As time goes on, there is an increasing visibility for feminine lesbians. Sometimes people are less likely to assume we are gay because of stereotypes associated with gay women.
Just like regular decent people, homophobes come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes they're hard to spot, because they're masquerading as tolerant. But fear not, dear readers...because my homophobe-spotter is just as sharp as my 'gaydar'. You will soon be able to spot these types from a mile away and avoid the frustration of enduring an ignorant conversation.
Come on my queer,
Get in gear.
Gay prides just a month away,
Through the streets we want to play.
There’s no such thing as a free lunch,
Doesn’t mean you need to get your panties in a bunch.
Queer Azadi Mumbai March is scheduled for Saturday, 28th January 2012 and the pride week is to be celebrated from 21st January – 28th January.

Somebody asked me today, what is love to me? I think every ones definition of love is different; love is what you believe it is. To me it is accepting the pain that it will bring along. I fear it. And right now I am using this space as an outlet because I have decided that I will conquer it soon.
