Suicides

I am watching and revolting at the latest media spectacle in the United States: Gaybie suicides. My first thought is “Great! The mainstream media finally woke up to a problem that has existed since before I was born. I don’t want to hear about it. Let me get back to my life.”

Gays And The Internet [Our World This Week]

There’s been much internet-related gay news this week. Some of it, the first of its kind, and some, downright sad. Eighteen year old Tyler Clementi, a freshman at Rutgers University, New Jersey, committed suicide is thought to have jumped off the George Washington bridge after a video of him being intimate with another man went viral on the internet.

Yet An Other Bullying

It is so tragic that a gay student has taken his life off due to bullying and invasion of privacy. Even after years of Mathew Sheppard and countless of registered and unregistered statistics (read suicides, murder... ), many countries and states do not yet have litigation to protect minorities. But isn't this a social problem? How much does it take for someone to respect others' privacy? Why makes assholes do things that are so destructive?

Gay Men Hold Record For Longest Kiss

Two gay men have broken the record for the world’s longest kiss, shattering the previous best of 32 hours, 14 minutes and 7 seconds by Nikola Matovic and Kristina Reinhart in 2009. The attempt by Matty Daley and Bobby Canciello lasted a total of 33 hours.

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell : Hogwash!

The DADT policy was enacted to allow gay and lesbian individuals to serve in the military as long as they did not disclose and/or engage in homosexual acts. Effectively, it meant they had to remain in the closet and/or celibate. Failing which these individuals could be discharged from the military.

Stephanie Rice Pays A Hefty Price

Have you heard of Australian swimmer Stephanie Rice? I hadn't till a few days ago. Apparently she was watching a rugby match between Australia & South Africa and after the Australian team beat the South African team, she tweeted, "Suck on that, f@gg*ts!" Because, you know, the South African team is clearly gay if they couldn't beat the Australian team, because gays are such losers and not men enough.

Of A Dandy And A Drag Queen

Harish Kumar on India’s Got Talent is a cross-dressing dancer from Jaisalmer, who is now one of the few remaining on the show. Queen Harish, as the performer is known, dresses in drag, slaps on makeup, wears Salvatore Ferragamo pumps and is a more graceful dancer than most women I have seen.

Headliners [Our World This Week]

The weekend is here and honestly I don’t want to be thinking about Gaysi. For once. No seriously off late the women in my life are complaining. They need my attention and so in the name of social service I say it’s time my knickers stops here...and goes offline. But I promise to be back before you say the word “boo”....well not literally. However a sexy editor is gotto do what she’s gotto do, and so here’s a quick re-cap of some headliners from the Queer world this week.

R Raja Rao on “Hostel Room 131”

The author talks about his new book, as how art and activism are the 2 sides of the same coin and how his "gayness" or rather the reflection of the "gay love story" which is dealt with in this novel has been marketed thus placing the art form related to his creativity and the literature in the background.

The Betrayed Gay Lover Story With A Twist

Many gay persons have probably been left by their partners for people of the opposite sex, much like the subject of this piece of news. But our Mr. X went one step further and filed a case against his former partner, Y.

Transgender Activism In A Jurists’ Conference

I am so impressed by the use of labels here - Transgenders, Gender Identity, etc. And look at the keywords for this article- "transgender, LGBT rights, alternative sexuality" and the section on related articles. OMG! When did a traditionally left-leaning, filter-coffee-sipping daily from a traditional, conservative city in India come up with such an understanding of a still rather arcane subject. I feel totally proud. Hats off to you Hindu.

Code 3

The Technical Advisory Committee constituted by Registrar General has recommended inclusion of transgender community in the census as a separate gender and not as males as is the present practice. In an RTI reply to Dr SE Huda of Bareilly based-NGO SSFA-ESFI, the Registrar General has said that the that the TAC has recommended a separate category for the transgender community of the country.

Gay Marriage in Nepal

Ditch California, you do not even need a visa to get married in Nepal. What impresses me is a country that is as conservative as ours has actually legalized the marriage while we still struggle for acceptance here.

Cinema, Politics And Pride [Our World This Week]

Gay movie Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyun (why must Hindi movie titles include by-lines like this one? Remember Daag-The Fire?) is set to hit screens across the world, including countries like Germany, Australia, Italy and Switzerland. The movie’s already attracted a great deal of interest and is being referred to as India’s answer to Brokeback Mountain.

Cali Rulez : No On Prop 8

The most important aspect is the defeat of the bigots - the diabolical plot pitched in by the FLDS and the Catholics and the NOM and all the other homophobic morons to basically negate a fundamental right of 2 human beings.

Butter Boys And More [Our World This Week]

All the way across in Germany, the city of Cologne prepares to host its 8th quadrennial athletic event for gay and lesbian athletes. The city is home to Europe’s biggest gay and lesbian sport club, SC Janus. Over 10,000 participants from 70 countries are expected to take part in the games which include a mix of mainstream sports like soccer along with some unconventional ones like transgender ballroom dancing and cheerleading.

The Miseducation of Angel Clark

Isn't it necessary that when journalists pen an article they do enough research? Or at the very least they educate themselves with the topic they are writing about? This article is totally trans-misogynistic and is so bigoted, it has BullS$%^ written all over

Microsoft’s Gay Spoof

The bitter reaction from certain section of the desi gay community is completely justifiable. The commercial is insulting by all means. After all, it does portray homosexual men as sluts… as men who have not a penny’s worth of integrity and would stoop to any level at the slightest hint of sexual intimacy.
