Queerly Yours…

As an over-the-hill, overweight, looking for love and not finding it lesbian, the next best thing to do is to discover romance, adventure, drama and lust from the lives of …

Yes, it even has a Gay Kiss ] So much has been happening in the world! So much! Time to play catch up…and that’s what we are here for – To nurse your hangover with Queer cheer.

Movie Review : Black Swan

On dreary winter nights, movies billed as ‘psychological thrillers’ are probably not the cheery fare I am looking for but having heard rave reviews about Black Swan, a few nights ago my sister and I ambled along into the theatre that was packed with people. I assure you - a packed theatre is a considerably rare occurrence out here. So after squeezing into 2 seats together padded by our parka jackets, we settled in for the ride. And my! What a ride it was!

Shahrukh, Ranbir in Brokeback Mountain Remake ?

Latest Bollywood buzz is that rising superstar, Ranbir Kapoor refused to work with Shahrukh khan, again! Kapoor kid says he is not desperate and is waiting for the "perfect script" to share screen space with King Khan. At Gaysi, we thought we would make an irresistible offer to the duo and while we are at it, also suggest some perfect remakes for our other Bollywood hunks.

Nigah QueerFest 2010

Now in its fourth year, The Nigah QueerFest ‘10 is Delhi’s annual celebration of queerness. The festival this year brings back the curated film festival and our popular performance component along with a visual arts exhibition, workshops, and more.

Same Old

Most days nothing much happens. When something does, it seems to involve clusters of ‘intellectuals’ engaged in…intellectualling? And sometimes they go on these spiralling loops where the same things keep coming back again and again, as if it were a rehearsal (for me not for them, cause they are new people each time) in which the same old argument reaches the same old conclusion.

An Outrageous Case of Homophobia!

Titled "Anbudan Andharangam", Dinamalar's weekly column claims to offers advice to readers on personal and intimate issues. Last Sunday, a young closeted gay man wrote a letter asking for help. He is very sure about his sexuality. His family is trying to arrange his marriage. He doesn't want to get married, but at the same time he is scared of coming out to them.

Movie Review: Bijli

Bijli is about a person who passes as "Fayaaz", a man, during the day, and dances as "Bijli" in drag, to Bollywood songs at night. Fayaaz has fond memories of his deceased parents, but has a bittersweet relationship with his faith, and the Mosque.

Caring About The Queer Stuff

I have had some friends tell me that this queer stuff isn’t so important to them, and with some friends it’s when they don’t tell me anything about queer issues and that’s how I know it isn’t important to them. Well, in general, some say that one should focus on their own thing because no one will do anyone else’s dirty work for them. I guess that’s a big gulp to gulp for me because I’m a social work student and I take great pride and joy in wanting to help people and help myself.

Happy Holidays?

It’s the holiday season and that can bring up all kinds of depressing, I mean cheerful feelings, right? Exactly. Holiday season can be complicated for us. During Halloween weekend, at a gay bar I let out a loud “noooooo!” when I saw three white men, all at the same time, in the following costumes: a Native American man with a headdress, a blue avatar, and Antoine Dodson the Bed Intruder Hero. Thank goodness I didn’t see any blackface!

Dunno Y Bollywood Is Not O.K with Gays [Our World This Week]

Close on this article's heels comes news that the release of Dunno Y.... has been delayed because the charming chaps of the Bhartiya Yuva Morcha protested ( Are these guys new ? never heard of them ? must be an offshoot of an offshoot of an offshoot of the SS. wow.) Apparently, Homosexuality is against Indian culture. Ok folks! After Halloween - we all go back to being straight o.k ? Party time over. I kid - but you get the drift - There are people in this world who dare define Indian culture.

Queer Desis With Class

My parents have had to pay to put three children through University (in different countries) as well as pay for the expenses that go with me having an increasingly severe disability. And obviously we sometimes like to celebrate our new, more comfortable lifestyle by going on vacations, but it is not always as indulgent since we are not accustomed to doing vacations. We have to be so much more careful, and this always reminds me of how I need to prepare myself for my inevitably poor future.

Outed In Time Out

Well in the good sense so fret not Gaysi supporters. And let’s rejoice with open mouths *…pants..err…let us not get carried away just yet* our very first main stream media outing. A big shout out to Time Out (New Delhi) for their forever Queer-friendly attitude.

Self-Care For A Queer Desi

Being our radical queer desi selves can be exhausting, and it’s always a positive thing to be intentionally taking care of our selves and our minds. When I first came out, roughly four years ago, I was aching so much to become an activist that I really wore myself out, as well as everyone around me! I now have a long list of conditions I have to give myself in order to be radical but still enjoy the world we are currently living in.

Suicides

I am watching and revolting at the latest media spectacle in the United States: Gaybie suicides. My first thought is “Great! The mainstream media finally woke up to a problem that has existed since before I was born. I don’t want to hear about it. Let me get back to my life.”

Gays And The Internet [Our World This Week]

There’s been much internet-related gay news this week. Some of it, the first of its kind, and some, downright sad. Eighteen year old Tyler Clementi, a freshman at Rutgers University, New Jersey, committed suicide is thought to have jumped off the George Washington bridge after a video of him being intimate with another man went viral on the internet.

Gay Men Hold Record For Longest Kiss

Two gay men have broken the record for the world’s longest kiss, shattering the previous best of 32 hours, 14 minutes and 7 seconds by Nikola Matovic and Kristina Reinhart in 2009. The attempt by Matty Daley and Bobby Canciello lasted a total of 33 hours.
