Crazy, Yes But Live Life, We Do!
Hats off to a mom who not only supported her kid’s choice of dressing, rather cross dressing in a character he so enjoys but also standing up to other moms (I read it as ‘showing the finger’) and then blogging about it and thus recording a million hits in this process. She has 42000 comments and counting on this post and if only the elections were a little late, I am sure this would have been a decisive factor in this year’s mid term elections!
Caring About The Queer Stuff
I have had some friends tell me that this queer stuff isn’t so important to them, and with some friends it’s when they don’t tell me anything about queer issues and that’s how I know it isn’t important to them.
Well, in general, some say that one should focus on their own thing because no one will do anyone else’s dirty work for them. I guess that’s a big gulp to gulp for me because I’m a social work student and I take great pride and joy in wanting to help people and help myself.

It’s the holiday season and that can bring up all kinds of depressing, I mean cheerful feelings, right? Exactly. Holiday season can be complicated for us.
During Halloween weekend, at a gay bar I let out a loud “noooooo!” when I saw three white men, all at the same time, in the following costumes: a Native American man with a headdress, a blue avatar, and Antoine Dodson the Bed Intruder Hero. Thank goodness I didn’t see any blackface!
Dunno Y Bollywood Is Not O.K with Gays [Our World This Week]
Close on this article’s heels comes news that the release of Dunno Y…. has been delayed because the charming chaps of the Bhartiya Yuva Morcha protested ( Are these guys new ? never heard of them ? must be an offshoot of an offshoot of an offshoot of the SS. wow.) Apparently, Homosexuality is against Indian culture. Ok folks! After Halloween – we all go back to being straight o.k ? Party time over. I kid – but you get the drift – There are people in this world who dare define Indian culture.
Gays And The Internet [Our World This Week]
There’s been much internet-related gay news this week. Some of it, the first of its kind, and some, downright sad. Eighteen year old Tyler Clementi, a freshman at Rutgers University, New Jersey, committed suicide is thought to have jumped off the George Washington bridge after a video of him being intimate with another man went viral on the internet.

The weekend is here and honestly I don’t want to be thinking about Gaysi. For once. No seriously off late the women in my life are complaining. They need my attention and so in the name of social service I say it’s time my knickers stops here…and goes offline. But I promise to be back before you say the word “boo”….well not literally.

Transgender Activism In A Jurists’ Conference
I am so impressed by the use of labels here – Transgenders, Gender Identity, etc. And look at the keywords for this article- “transgender, LGBT rights, alternative sexuality” and the section on related articles. OMG! When did a traditionally left-leaning, filter-coffee-sipping daily from a traditional, conservative city in India come up with such an understanding of a still rather arcane subject. I feel totally proud. Hats off to you Hindu.
Cinema, Politics And Pride [Our World This Week]
Gay movie Dunno Y…Na Jaane Kyun (why must Hindi movie titles include by-lines like this one? Remember Daag-The Fire?) is set to hit screens across the world, including countries like Germany, Australia, Italy and Switzerland. The movie’s already attracted a great deal of interest and is being referred to as India’s answer to Brokeback Mountain.
Butter Boys And More [Our World This Week]
All the way across in Germany, the city of Cologne prepares to host its 8th quadrennial athletic event for gay and lesbian athletes. The city is home to Europe’s biggest gay and lesbian sport club, SC Janus. Over 10,000 participants from 70 countries are expected to take part in the games which include a mix of mainstream sports like soccer along with some unconventional ones like transgender ballroom dancing and cheerleading.
One Step Forward, A Couple Back
On Monday, the United Nations granted consultative status to the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) after a three-year application process. The IGLHRC was put to vote before the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) where it was passed with 23 in favour, 13 against, 13 abstaining from voting and 5 absentees. The NGO shall now be consulted by the UN on matters within its competence.
