Gay prince of Rajpipla Manavendra Singh Gohil will soon publish and edit India’s first magazine for gays called Fun’, which will highlight gay lifestyle. The magazine will talk about everything from gay fashion, to gadgets and gizmo that gays like, to health and sexuality and other issues relating to men who like men.
The magazine will be launched on July 26 at Goa with actress Celina Jaitley. The cover will have a shirtless photograph of upcoming model Rehan Khan. [Link]
Brilliant move, no doubt. Manavendra Singh is one helluva great dude. Old age home for Queer folks, a resting place for AIDS patients, running NGOs, creating awareness via public and press meets, and the list of his self-less dedication goes on and on.
Though I have to admit, the idea of launching it with Ms. Jaitley and the shirtless model for a cover page doesn’t appeal to me much. Banking on Bollywood celebrities has become modus operandi of some sort in grabbing media eye-balls almost for everything nowadays.
Agreed, one cannot deny Celina Jaitley’s dedicated support for the Queer cause but can’t we share the same space with those who have made a difference in actuality, in numbers, on field. I am talking about the likes of Ashok Row Kavi, Gautam Bham, Ruth Vanita, Rohit Bal, Sunil Menon…aren’t these guys celebrities, and don’t they represent gay lifestyle?
And what’s this fixation with shirtless beefy models for a cover page? Like seriously!
“And what’s this fixation with shirtless beefy models for a cover page? Like seriously!”…hmmm eye candy for some?
Not to be the skeptic, but I worry for this thing already. I’m very glad Prince M is out and I’m glad he’s an icon etc but he has a very odd sense of the gay lifestyle from all I’ve read/watched of him. So I’m going to wait with my pinch of salt.
Also, what’s with the name ‘Fun’!
like na-uh!
It is a laudable effort. As far as Celina is concerned it is important to have bollywood celebrities as they make news instantly. However to make a point Celina was on the cover of Fantasy which is a lifestyle mag for straight men and has bard quite a bit inside. The launch of Fun happened at the same time, Coincidence???
And come on, if a gay mag will not have beefy sexy guys on the cover what will it have Abdul Kalam???
Agreed celebrities are fodder for instant news but this dependence on them, is it really beneficial for our cause?
As for Abdul Kalam, hell why not? The man is a gay icon after all. And one can only imagine the media’s response then.
But beefy sexy guys is all one is interested in then why bother with the so the called “life style” jargon might as well have a porn fest. 😀
I’m keen to see Prince Manvendra succeed in anything that he does, as he’s inspired a lot of what I do as an author, and creative artist. Should he need a skinny model (as apposed to a beefy one!,) to appear for a photo shoot in his magazine, then I’m there for him, seriously. He needs only send me an invitation. Much love and respect to His Highness, always. Sincerely, His Royal Majesty King Marcel Duvoix.
Looks like the magazine has created quite a buzz. Hope you guys read the first issue and liked it. Oh, btw, we’re also on FaceBook.

As for the cover images, it’s not that we don’t respect icons like Abdul Kalam or the who-have-you of gay icons, but one has to agree it will do nothing in terms of sale. Also, it’s not like we’re all glitter and no gold.
We lure them in with the man-candy and keep them with the substance. We would never have any readers if that was all that we offered. We’re trying to make a sincere effort in terms of real content.
Hope to get some good/constructive feedback here and on the FB page.
whatever method is being used, it’s all good as long as the magazine reaches it’s readers or (in case of picts) viewers! If u have a problem with its cover don’t buy it. Stop this useless complaining.
