We all love a good story and I believe gaysi had many to offer in the year 2010. It is funny but I still cannot forget the day I had a conversation with MJ over the gay fiction scene in India, how we lack good fiction and how Gaysi can be a sexy platform that liberates young gaysi minds. Looking back, I know that we have come a long way. At times I feel we live in a golden age, one that’s altogether different from earlier days of invisible queerdom.
We have all heard of the phrase “a picture is worth a thousand words” but here I see few hundred words creating thousand magnificent pictures in my head. Pictures of love, longing, playfulness, desires, fantasies, tragedy and hope. It’s a great moment to be getting to read these stories , and a 10-best list sounds like a stupid constraint on numbers. But we got to do what we got to do.
So, in no particular order, here are some of the stories I really really liked last year.
- Brooding Roosters, by Shridhar Sadasivan
- Like a patient Etherised Upon a Table, by Madcatter
- Beatle, by QC
- The Learning Curve, by Tejas Pande
- Contemporary Courtesan, by Tappy Tippy
- Pain, by Shridhar Sadasivan
- Wrath, by QC
- Differences, by Stret-a-Scope
- Epiphany, by Anurag
- One Day, by Chicklet
Each one with their lives, problems and aspirations for ambitious youths in love, colored bright by their individuality, has shared a lot in these stories which reverberates deep and continue to resonate in the mind for a long time.
