Here’s the Film Festival Programme
Dear cinephiles, queer comrades, feminist friends!
SAVE THESE DATES!
We have planned a special afternoon-to-late-evening weekend of amazing films and stimulating discussions, with a wonderful package specially curated for CineLABIA.
OUR LIVES…TO LIVE (seeking a JUST world!) is the 2nd edition of a travelling film festival presented by the India chapter of IAWRT (The International Association of Women in Radio and Television). Of 100+ films, we have programmed around 30 for CineLABIA. These include short fiction and a fiction feature, animation, music videos, documentary and non-fiction, community videos and testimonials… accompanied by discussions, as well as tea and pee and ciggie breaks!
This CineLABIA weekend comes right after us Bombay-walas would have cast our votes, but before the results are out. On this cusp of hope, we want to renew our commitment to justice, which is the theme of OUR LIVES…TO LIVE this year, and to make the connections between struggles for queer rights, for gender equality, for freedom from the injustices of casteism, communalism, environmental damage, corporate greed and every kind of discrimination and oppression.
And what better way to do this than through watching human stories brought alive on film and listening to the voices of people from different regions of the country and different parts of the world? What better way to do this than to come together in safety and solidarity and friendship, and celebrate the human spirit that fights homphobia in Uganda, that seeks to protect tribal lands in Odisha, that denounces the “honour killing” of a young woman in the UK, that shares joyful moments with differently abled children in Poland, that questions the shameful practice of untouchability across India, that sings aloud in the midst of sadness and confusion: No going back! and No More! and We Won’t Leave! and so many other brave and necessary songs.
