HIV/AIDS Awareness & Prevention Camp

Yaariyan presents HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention camp on Sunday 18th August 2013

Did you know that research shows 1in 10 MSMs (Men having sex with men) in Mumbai are HIV positive. Did you know even if you make a mistake of playing unsafe or comdom breakage, there is way you can pervert HIV if you ACT ASAP?

Recently there has be a spike in reporting of new cases of HIV especially amongst the youth, who probably are not as exposed to campaigns of last 20 years, which may be waning with drop in cases in the last few years.

Yaariyan presents a very special evening for HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention with special screening of Jim Hubbard& Sarah Schulman’s “United in Anger :A HISTORY OF ACT UP”, which is a unique feature-length documentary that combines startling archival footage that puts the audience on the ground with the activists and the remarkably insightful interviews from from a grassroots perspective – how a small group of men and women of all races and classes, came together to change the world and save each other’s lives. And their actions that forced the U.S. government and mainstream media to deal with the AIDS crisis. UNITED IN ANGER reveals the group’s complex culture – meetings, affinity groups, and approaches to civil disobedience mingle with profound grief, sexiness, and the incredible energy of ACT UP.

Followed a detailed discussion on HIV/AIDS, prevention and strategies, from the best experts in the field. Also learn how you can prevent it, incase of condom breakage or getting carried away, PEP (Post-exposure prophylaxis) treatment, where, when how to get it!
