QConversations with D’Lo and Anjali, LA, USA.
An interactive session and Q&A with D’Lo and Anjali. This intimate conversation will touch on D’Lo’s life as a trans person, Anjali’s work as a scholar and clinical psychologist, and their life as a couple of South Asian (Sindhi Indian and Tamil Sri Lankan) descent with their parents and community, how they navigate and participate in LGBTQ communities in the USA, and how they approach effective communication throughout the many rites-of-passages of their relationship and commitment.
Anjali will also discuss her research on understanding community-level agency among transgender/gender nonconforming people of color.
The documentary Performing Girl (based on D’Lo’s life as an out transgender actor/writer/comedian) will be screened with Q & A to follow.

Synopsis: One week before her scheduled sex-change operation, Bree receives a call from a 17-year-old identifying himself as her son from a college liaison. Bree’s psychiatrist won’t approve the surgery until Bree deals with this relationship, so Bree flies to New York City, bails the youth out of juvenile detention, and offers him a ride back to Los Angeles without disclosing that she is his father. Both her plans and his go awry, and as secrets will out, what might become a friendship (or more) founders. The lad’s step-father, a sex-change support group, a peyote eater, a Navajo wrangler, and Bree’s family all play their parts in this exploration of family, gender, and expectations.

Description: The monologues convey narratives of people belonging to very different identities (based on their occupation, sexual and gender identities, histories, choices, abilities, etc.) sharing their experiences of “coming out” for the first time to someone who is important to them. They trace how the reactions to their disclosure was violent to them in different ways as it involved a rejection or a lack of acknowledgment of their identities. Through the monologues, we want to discuss how violence can be perceived and perpetrated in very different forms.

Subversive and celebratory – ideas in queer photography
Controversial ideas have often needed strategies of subversion — and many gay photographers and artists have deployed them with extreme skill and effect. Paying close attention to the work of a significant group of artists, including Allen Frame, Rotimi Fani Kayode, Zoe Leonard, Glenn Ligon, Zanele Muholi, Catherine Opie, and David Wojnarowicz, we will discuss image making from the quiet and subversive to the documentary and celebratory.

RAAT BAAKI: Synopsis: Raat Baki brings together three interconnected stories – one straight and two queer, on a single night. Kritika is having an extra-marital affair with Rohit. Aman meets an estranged lover, Tara, and goes out on a date. Deep cruises men in public toilets and finds a match in a handsome Raju. Their paths criss-cross each other as they look forward to a night full of romance, desire and adventure.
EIDI: Synopsis: Soumya arrives in Calcutta to reunite with his close friend Ranjita, a transgender activist, and is in the mood for a good time. However, a series of upheavals let out his insecurities, and inner demons, where Soumya, struggling to come to terms with his own identity is confronted with his own convoluted notions and double standards. Will their friendship stand this test of time?

Although Los Angeles doctor Zack (Michael Ontkean) is happily married to television executive Claire (Kate Jackson), he finds himself struggling with his increasing attraction to other men. These feelings boil over when he meets a new patient, the openly gay and hedonistic Bart (Harry Hamlin), with whom he begins a tempestuous and emotionally draining affair. His infidelity throws Zack and Claire’s marriage into turmoil at a time when they had been discussing starting a family.
