Queer Ink Book Club : Meet Author Amruta Patil

Greetings!

Welcome back! We are resuming the club after two months, so there is a lot of catching up to do, and what better time than a crisp Sunday evening of December.

So much has happened in the English literary scene in India since we last met. A book on queer erotica Close, Too Close was released by a mainstream publisher, an anthology of comics called the Obliterary Journal had a comic on a gay encounter; and now, Shobhana turned

publisher with Out! edited by Minal Hajratwala.

Exciting times, exciting work!

This Sunday, we will resume the book club with a chat. We’ll talk about the growth of queer literature in India, and why it’s of so much significance. After all, our lives are about more than Section 377 and criminality (no matter what the Supreme Court might say).

Plus, since ’tis the season to be jolly, we also have a surprise in store for you. Which, because I love you all so much, I shall reveal right away: Amruta Patil, the author of Kari, the country’s first graphic novel with a lesbian character, will be joining us, too. She will talk about her new work (I’ll leave that as a surprise) and about Kari.

So come one, come all.
