This week was a week filled with mostly depressing news for our community. Just another week then.
So, all you homophobes out there – do you feel safer and happier, now that an old professor was stripped off his dignity and ended up dead? Prof. Siras, who last week won the preliminary court battle, was found dead under suspicious circumstances.
When will people let us live our lives with dignity and pride? What was gained by subjecting a man to this humiliation? I hope the students who got their cheap thrills by filming him in the privacy of his home get put behind bars and remain there for the rest of their miserable lives.
And perhaps in the ONLY glimmer of hope this week, the Government may make changes for Transgender prisoners. Although, I’d like the Government to first take care of it’s LGBT population outside the prisons, this is clearly a step in the right direction.
In other Transgender news, Bombay Gymkhana kicked out a ghar aayi hui Lakshmi. Club officials barged into a TedxMumbai event and demanded that transgender activist Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi, leave the premises. Way to show the world your transphobia, Bombay Gymkhana. One of the few celebrities to speak up for gay rights, Celina Jaitley, has called for a boycott of Bombay Gymkhana.
Speaking of keeping people out of your premises, Tory MP Chris Grayling says that he supports the right of B&B owners to refuse accommodation to same-sex couples. What next? No Indians? No Muslims?
Britain’s Tory party aka The Homophobes have been trying their very best to pretend that they’re gay loving converts. But the truth, like homosexuality, eventually comes out of the closet.
In MORE bad news, tennis icon from my childhood, Martina Navratilova has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
We wish you a very speedy recovery, Martina.
Who on Earth uses this logic? “Oooh! Let me rape this woman – that’ll make her enjoy sex with a man!” Mugabe does. The US State Department’s 2009 Human Rights Report for Zimbabwe has “identified chronic, politically sanctioned anti-gay discrimination, violence, and torture at the hands of Mugabe’s minions, including rape of lesbians and gay men forced into heterosexual acts, with some raped by family members, ostensibly to “cure” them.”
Ok, enough bad news for one week. Let’s hope that the next week brings us some much needed good news. Have a good weekend, gaysis!
