Through The Vines

Starting off as empty branches

We are eager to smell sweet flowers.

So exciting, so treasured, so unique

They continually draw us apart from each other.

We refuse to hold each other anymore,

Failing to recognize each other.

The boy we haven’t seen since grade school,

The sibling that went off to college,

Even the woman we only just met.

But we have the ability to meet eyes

Despite everything

And because of everything,

If we want to.

If we untangle and understand

The vines that our experiences have wrapped around us,

These vines will unravel.

These vines have lifted some of us higher,

Some of us lower.

Given us different passions and desires

And the ability to see our passions and desires differently.

If we look through the vines of our humanity

We can see through the jungle of this world

At each other’s branches that shouldn’t look so difficult

To unravel, to see through, and to hold.
