Theme synopsis: ‘Now, You Can Go Home’ is a compilation of photo works created in the past two years and continues to be an open project where each photograph performs a story about explorations of different characters with glimpses of them in fear, self-acceptance, longing and celebration. ‘Home’ here being symbolic of a mental and also a physical space of undoing a history of shame and inaccessibility to one’s own body and/or desire. The photo series originated from an earlier body of work titled ‘Home Alone’ which primarily comprised of several self-portraits (and also, photo-collages) the artist created in his bedroom turned studio as a personal experiment at reconciling with his own body/gender image and using that physical space, it’s implied mood of privacy and intimacy as materials for performance portraiture itself. He opened it to more people as characters in the same narrative and a collective sentiment of playfulness and struggle seems to emerge.
