Simply Queer 1.0

Here is the idea.  Plenty of times, we see things which are supposedly “straight” or “hetronormative” but they don’t seem so to us.  They look, sound or feel very queer to us. This happens too often with me. Maybe I am a little too queer for my own good.

Now, these things could be, for example, a conversation about women between two straight men, a music video, a scene from a movie, an advertisement, certain expressions people give us and so on and so forth. Basically just anything you witness in everyday life.

To start with let’s talk about the music video of Mazhaiye Mazhaiye. This is a Tamil music video from the music album Ussele Ussele .  This happens to be Srinivas’s debut album as a music composer and music director. Srinivas is an award-winning playback singer who has sung over 2000 songs in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. He has worked with a lot of reputed music directors and sung popular numbers like En Uyire from Uyire and Kaisi hai yeh from Dil Chahta Hai.

Now, I really don’t know what the idea behind this video was, but it certainly wasn’t a hetronormative one.  If I do get a chance to meet him someday, I would love to ask him about it.  He might just say, it was a queer love story. Or maybe not.  It’s a little too intimate for it to be a story of two “friends”.

Anyway, I love how it is shot in a village.  The actors have done a good job, also the soundtrack is beautiful and syncs in really well with the video.

To conclude, it’s simply a beautiful video. The way I see it, it’s a story of two women falling in love.  Enjoy!
