Chennai Dost a Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Community based organization in Chennai along with Alliance Francaise of Madras is organizing an LGBT Film Festival named Chennai Rainbow Film Festival – 2013.
About Chennai Dost
Chennai Dost is one of the major support group for Gay, Bisexual men and women in Chennai, with 3000 registered members. Established in the year 2008, Chennai Dost’s main goal is to create a healthy, non sexual social space for Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual men and women.
In the last 4 years, Chennai Dost has organized social events like Art Expos, Parties, Workshops, Movie screenings etc., We have also organized events part of Chennai Rainbow coalition. We played an important role in bringing in participants and promoting “Chennai Rainbow Pride” and have been a part in organizing the same for the last 4 years and waiting to see the 5th one in the near future, which would be a tremendous success with your continuous support & effort.
About Alliance Francaise of Madras
Born in 1953, l’Alliance Française de Madras is a Franco-Indian non-profit association. Its mission is to teach the French language through classes meant for all the people of Chennai and also Tamil Nadu thanks to its Trichy, Coimbatore and Madurai branches.
The Alliance is especially a confluence of French and Indian culture. It also has the mission of making known French and Francophone culture and favor cultural diversity by valorizing all cultures. It is therefore both a school for learning French, using the latest teaching methods and multimedia tools, and a cultural center that takes part in the artistic life of the city of Chennai and Tamil Nadu.
About Chennai Rainbow Film Festival
As a community initiative, Chennai Rainbow Film Festival (CRFF) aims to provide a venue for screening the works of established and emerging gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer video and film makers or others who portray our community in a positive and affirmative light.
To bring noteworthy films by local, national and international talent to Front Range audiences, including films that may not otherwise see distribution in area theaters.
To build GLBTQ community and counter issues of invisibility and misinformation by providing a forum for viewing films that depict our lives and loves, and for discussing the films in a social and political context.
The film festival runs for 3 days between 7 June and 9 June 2013.

7 June 2013 – Inauguration of LGBT themed Photo/Art Exhibition by Dr. Anita Ratnam (Dance Choreographer & Performer)
Award for Best Photo/Art based on LGBT theme presented by Ms. Apsara Reddy (Media Personality)

Welcome dance by Ms. Ponni Abhinaya (Classical Dance Performer & Transgender activist)
8 June 2013 – Award Ceremony – Awards for Media, Film and Art personalities who have supported and/or contributed to LGBT community and its issues.
The award ceremony is presided by Mr. Balu Mahendra – Eminent Director, Film Maker & Cinematographer.
The following awards are being given:
1. Actor Mr. Sarath Kumar – for acting in “Kanchana” as a Transgender.
2. Ms. Vijaya Padma – for making “Narthagi” a film based on Transgender Issues.
3. Mr. Ashwin – for acting in “Narthagi”
4. Ms. Priya Menon – for writing on LGBT issues in Times of India
5. Ms. Sonabar Sultana – for speaking on LGBT issues in Chennai Live
6. Mr. Gnani – for Stage Plays and support on LGBT issues.

9 June 2013 – Award Ceremony – Awards for best LGBT shorts/documentaries
The following awards are being given
1. Chennai Rendezvous Best short film (Tamil)
This award is being presented by Ms. Shailaja Chetlur (Actor & Social Activist) & Ms. Nina Reddy (Executive Director of Savera Group of Hotels & Social activist) both from Chennai International Film Festival
2. Best Short Film/Documentary (India)
3. Best Short Film (Tamil)
4. Best Short/Documentary (International)
9 June 2013 – Screening of Feature Length film “Narthagi” and Cultural Performance by Chennai Dost & Burlesque, a Bengaluru based Dance Team.
All 3 days more than 30 short films and documentaries both Indian and International will be screened. Out of the more than 100 entries submitted our expert panel has hand picked around 30 films for screening. Entry is free and open for all.
