India I 2014 I 43 min I Hindi, English

Festivals: ViBGYOR International Film Festival, Thrissur, Kerala

This film attempts to throw some light on education as an institution that perpetuates gender norms and punishes anyone who breaks these norms. It follows 4 Trans* people who recount their own stories of silence, violence, oppression, resistance, survival, and triumph within and outside the Indian education system.

Nirantar believes that it is important to recognise that young people, like any other social category, do not form a homogenous group and are often located differently from one another, whether in terms of gender, dis/ability, sexuality, caste, class, rural or urban, including young people who are transgender, a thus far invisible category.

Festivals: Rhode Island International Film Festival
International Documentary Film festival Amsterdam
New York Gay & Lesbian Film Festival

Boxing champion Michele Aboro grew up in South London, where life for a girl was never easy, let alone for a mixed-race lesbian girl. Thanks to her tenacious spirit and an uncanny talent for combat sports, she put her difficult past behind her and managed to sign a contract with the biggest boxing promoter in Europe. She won all 21 fights, 18 of them with a knockout – an exceptional achievement in women’s boxing. But despite her spectacular record in the ring, her career came to a sudden halt when this undefeated world champion was abandoned by an industry more interested in selling sex than sport.
