Gays And The Internet [Our World This Week]

There’s been much internet-related gay news this week. Some of it, the first of its kind, and some, downright sad. Eighteen year old Tyler Clementi, a freshman at Rutgers University, New Jersey, committed suicide is thought to have jumped off the George Washington bridge after a video of him being intimate with another man went viral on the internet.

Gay Men Hold Record For Longest Kiss

Two gay men have broken the record for the world’s longest kiss, shattering the previous best of 32 hours, 14 minutes and 7 seconds by Nikola Matovic and Kristina Reinhart in 2009. The attempt by Matty Daley and Bobby Canciello lasted a total of 33 hours.

The XX factor

What does a woman look for in another woman? I could probably ask what a woman looks for in a partner, but I assume it’s not the same thing. I for one, look for very different, almost opposite qualities in men and women. But from what I understand, it probably works differently for gay women.

Of A Dandy And A Drag Queen

Harish Kumar on India’s Got Talent is a cross-dressing dancer from Jaisalmer, who is now one of the few remaining on the show. Queen Harish, as the performer is known, dresses in drag, slaps on makeup, wears Salvatore Ferragamo pumps and is a more graceful dancer than most women I have seen.

The Betrayed Gay Lover Story With A Twist

Many gay persons have probably been left by their partners for people of the opposite sex, much like the subject of this piece of news. But our Mr. X went one step further and filed a case against his former partner, Y.

Society And Hijras : The Domino Effect

The other day I was stuck in traffic and a ‘hijra’ walked by me. Almost instinctively my driver raised the windows. And then I realised it’s a little bit like the domino effect. The way our society perceives transgender people, and the way they react is much like a vicious circle.

Straight Man=Homophobe?

I don’t like jumping to conclusions, but there’s one conclusion I’ve come to, based on my interaction with men in the 20-25 demographic. And what I’ve come to realise is that most men are either homosexuals or homophobes. Which is not to say that all straight men are homophobes or all pro-gay men are gay. But all my straight male friends have the same thing to say- “It’s hot when its two chicks. Two dudes getting it on is just gross.”

Cinema, Politics And Pride [Our World This Week]

Gay movie Dunno Y…Na Jaane Kyun (why must Hindi movie titles include by-lines like this one? Remember Daag-The Fire?) is set to hit screens across the world, including countries like Germany, Australia, Italy and Switzerland. The movie’s already attracted a great deal of interest and is being referred to as India’s answer to Brokeback Mountain.

My “Types”- A Bisexual Thing?

I’m the kind of girl who falls somewhere in- I’m neither very feminine, nor masculine. But I don’t like me so much. If I saw me walking on the street, I’d probably go- “That’s a very cool chick, but definitely not my type.” I’d definitely not proposition me. And that’s because I don’t fit my “type”. And I don’t ever think I’d fall for a girl on a motorcycle.

Horoscopes And Online Dating For Lesbians

My first thought when MJ asked me to do a review of Pink Sofa was “not another lesbian dating site.” I’m a little wary of online dating/matrimonial sites- gay or straight. Pink sofa is a de-glam, less fun version of OurChart which Showtime took down after the L Word ended its run.

Finding Her, Finding Me- Part II

I usually had the habit of blowing things way out of proportion; I read between the lines, I interpreted a gesture more than I should have. But not this. Here …

Marrying For Convenience

Going by figures, one in every fifteen people (figures range from 5% to 10%) is homosexual or has homosexual tendencies. Which leads us to the obvious assumption that millions of people in heterosexual marriages are in fact gay (or bisexual). So what do such people do?

Gaydar, Got It?

Remember that scene from the L Word where Shane, Alice and Helena are running around with gaydar guns, seeing if they can figure out Jenny’s orientation? Since then, I’ve always wished I had one of them. I have always, always have crushes on straight women. Always. And I haven’t got gaydar.
